High design and high touch have finally merged to bring wood framed monitors and keyboards to fruition. Except for the pricing, I am an eager customer. What an improvement in warming up the work and homeplace. Hoping they will come up with some affordable versions soon, the ones I saw in Home Magazine were $5800-$8900. See them here. MG

Have You Seen . . . Monitors With Wood Frames?

The War of Art, Stephen Pressfield
This book really gave me a kick in the butt! Pressfield nails out propensity to procrastinate and resist success and the realization of our own creative genius brilliantly. He is succinct, to the point, and uses personal examples to illustrate. No more excuses, because that is all they are. He details how resistance, our insidious road block, comes only from within and is there at every step. While many of us may know this, it is a wake-up call to see it in black and white and acknowledged by such a success. Pressfield also authored The Legend of Bagger Vance, The Gates of War and The Tides of Fire.
Airport Design . . . Charles De Gaulle Has It!
April 10, 2006Wow, it is rare for me to find such interest and intrigue in a public space but this was really quite stunning. It was uniquely quiet without the usual hubbub and buzz of cell phones and loud talk so prevalent in the USA. Cell phones weren’t permitted until after customs. No symphony of cell phone on noises at landing. I didn’t miss it.
When in baggage claim and ticketing it truly felt as if you were in the underside of a great ship with weathered gray arching wood bracing overhead (I couldn’t get close enough to determine if this was actually cement planking with a wood texture, guessing so.) It felt almost cathedral like.
But for the 20+ minute ride in a trolley bus from the terminal to the plane (I swear I think we switched airports!), and the dismal acoustics for their PA system, it was likely one of the most well designed airport ambiances I have experience. MG
Domino . . . The Source
April 2, 2006Gotta say I am generally not a fan of shopping publications, but Domino has done a terrific job. It is concise, clear, and provides valuable comparisons. It is also not all budget oriented as some may think but does give the real dish on sources for all manner of interior elements. It also features some great DIY advice and projects and truly is focused on the current issues in design and decorating today. Domino is hot and now! MG
